Just confirmed on X (formerly Twitter), the second CS2 major will be hosted by Perfect World in Shanghai. It will be the first time a Counter-Strike major will be hosted in Asia.
This is coming off the success of the CS Asia Championships 2023, that were also hosted by Perfect World. Where we saw FaZe Clan claim another title after a win over MOUZ in the grand finals. Showcasing exactly what a CS2 tournament hosted by perfect World can look like. The major can only be a step up with an increased budget and size.
The first major of 2024, and the first CS2 major ever, will be hosted in Copenhagen. The PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 will take place during March 17-31. The qualification for which will begin in February next year. It will be the biggest stage CS2 has been on so far.
Rumors has been circulating for awhile of a CS Major being hosted in the China. It is a large esports market and Counter-Strike hasn’t had it’s premier event hosted there. China has hosted the DOTA2 event The International 2019, as well as the League of Legends World Championship in 2017 and 2020. It is undeniably an esports destination.
Perfect World has hosted many other successful esports tournaments, including the Perfect World National League, the Perfect World Cities Championship, and the PUBG Mobile Global Championship. These tournaments have featured the top teams from around the world, and have produced some of the most memorable moments in esports history.
Counter-Strike 2 was released on September 27, 2023, replacing Global Offensive on Steam. The game was free to upgrade for all Global Offensive players, and was a major update to the series, featuring a new engine, new maps, and new gameplay features.
