Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 blast onto Switch

Published on

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are back—this time on Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Released today, the classic Wii adventures have been enhanced with sharper visuals, new features, and even extra chapters in Rosalina’s Storybook.

Players can relive Mario’s cosmic journey, from meeting Rosalina and the Lumas to teaming up with Yoshi in Galaxy 2. For newcomers, it’s the perfect chance to experience two of Nintendo’s most beloved 3D Mario adventures.

What’s New in the Switch Versions

The collection brings several improvements over the original Wii releases:

  • Enhanced visuals across both Switch systems
  • New Storybook chapters, expanding Rosalina’s lore
  • A soundtrack mode with additional tracks
  • Assist Mode, adding health and recovery options
  • AutoSave, a first for the Galaxy series

Gameplay has also been adapted for modern controls. Both Joy-Con and Joy-Con 2 support motion, button, and stick inputs, letting you spin, jump, and glide across the stars as you chase down Power Stars.

Switch 2 Upgrade and Release Options

For those upgrading to Nintendo Switch 2, a free update will unlock 4K resolution support for both titles.

Physical buyers can grab them together in the Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 package, while digital players can purchase each game separately via the Nintendo eShop.

Amiibo and Collectibles on the Way

Nintendo also confirmed new collectibles for Galaxy fans:

  • Two oversized amiibo figures (Mario & Luma, Rosalina & Lumas) arrive 2nd April 2026. Scanning them in-game gives bonus items like a Life Mushroom or 1-Up Mushroom.
  • An illustrated hardcover edition of Rosalina’s Storybook launches 25th November 2025, available via My Nintendo Store and select retailers.
