After eight years, Nintendo has launched its next-generation console. The Nintendo Switch 2 is out now worldwide – and it’s bringing Mario Kart World, a new online-focused entry in the iconic franchise, along for the ride.
Fans can grab the console starting today, either on its own or in the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle, which includes a digital version of the game. Over 20 additional games also launch alongside it, including Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, SPLIT FICTION, Street Fighter 6, and Fortnite.
Nintendo Switch 2: Features and Upgrades
The Nintendo Switch 2 is more than just an upgrade — it’s a leap forward. Key new features include:
- GameChat: Voice chat with up to 12 players and video calls with up to four using a USB-C camera (sold separately)
- Joy-Con 2 controllers with mouse-style control and magnetic attachment
- 7.9-inch full HD LCD screen
- 4K and 120fps support when docked, with VRR in handheld mode
- 256 GB of storage, eight times that of the original Switch
- Crisp 3D audio in handheld and tabletop modes
- Accessibility features and full backward compatibility with select Nintendo Switch titles via updates
Mario Kart World Goes Bigger Than Ever
Mario Kart World is the most expansive entry in the series yet. Here’s what players can expect:
- Up to 24 racers in chaotic high-speed competition
- Grand Prix mode where even the paths between races are part of the action
- Knockout Tour, a new mode that eliminates lagging drivers at checkpoints
- Free Roam, letting players explore at their own pace solo or online
- Battle mode returns for competitive fun
- Split-screen multiplayer, local wireless, and online play for global racing
Using GameChat, players can talk while they race and even show their expressions in-game via CameraPlay with a USB-C camera.

Massive Launch Lineup
Switch 2 isn’t launching with just one game — it’s launching with a full library. Notable day-one titles include:
- Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition – Complete experience, including Phantom Liberty, with gyro and touchscreen support
- Street Fighter 6 – New Switch-exclusive party modes and Joy-Con 2 integration
- Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – Mouse control support and full handheld performance
- Fortnite – 60fps, upgraded visuals, and replay mode
- SPLIT FICTION – A co-op story-driven experience across fantasy and sci-fi worlds
Plus, the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection launches today with F-Zero GX, Zelda: The Wind Waker, and SOULCALIBUR II, all in HD.
