The heartbeat of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) is about to get a lot more colorful. PAX Aus has officially confirmed the return of the Cosplay Central Crown Championship for 2026. This year is particularly special, marking five years of celebrating the elite craftsmanship and performance of the Australian cosplay community.
But the championship isn’t the only big news. For the first time ever, PAX Aus is introducing Cosplay Land, a massive dedicated space designed to support, celebrate, and provide practical resources for every cosplayer—from first-timers to seasoned veterans.
The Road to the Global Final
The Cosplay Central Crown Championship remains the ultimate prize for local creators. The competition will crown one overall winner and one runner-up.
The stakes are higher than ever: the 2026 winner will represent Australia on the international stage at the Cosplay Central Crown Championship Global Final at MCM London Comic Con in 2027. This is the premier opportunity for Australian talent to showcase their work to a global audience.
A World-Class Judging Panel
To assess the intense level of detail seen at PAX, a panel of international experts has been assembled. This year’s judges bring experience from major game studios and Hollywood blockbusters:
- Cinderys: A Paris-based professional cosplayer and 3D artist. She is an award-winning creator who has collaborated with industry giants like Blizzard, Capcom, and Bungie.
- Soylent Cosplay: A Sydney-based legend in special FX makeup. Known for her transformative work, she has collaborated with BioWare, PlayStation ANZ, and was the official Australian Lilith for the launch of Diablo IV.
- Spicythaidesign: A globally recognized costumer at Wētā Workshop in New Zealand. Their professional credits include work on Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Avatar: The Way of Water.
Back on hosting duties is the fan-favorite The Gem Cosplay. As a professional cosplayer and esports caster, Gem brings years of experience to the stage, acting as the perfect bridge between the technical creators and the cheering audience.

Introducing: Cosplay Land
For years, the community has asked for a central hub, and PAX Aus has delivered. Cosplay Land will be located on the mezzanine level near the Clarendon Street entrance of the MCEC. This dedicated space is designed to be a “central station” for all things cosplay.
Features of Cosplay Land include:
- Dedicated Theatre: A stage specifically for cosplay-focused panels and Q&As.
- Repair Station & Change Rooms: Practical amenities to fix broken props or change comfortably throughout the day.
- Lumin’s Workshop: Hands-on workshops where you can learn new techniques directly from the pros.
- Media Walls: A space featuring professional photography and a walk-up community wall for that perfect Instagram shot.
- Lounge & Meet-ups: A place to rest, trade tips, and connect with fellow fans.
How to Get Involved
Details regarding Cosplay Central Crown Championship entry and the full schedule for Cosplay Land programming will be released in the coming months. Whether you are aiming for the London finals or just want to learn how to work with foam at a Lumin’s Workshop session, PAX Aus 2026 is shaping up to be the most inclusive year yet for the community.
