The International Game Developers Association (IGDA), in collaboration with the IGDA Foundation (IGDA-F), Women in Games International, Global Game Jam, Take This, and Game to Grow, has launched the Stronger Together In Games Campaign. This collaborative initiative, running from November 28th through the end of 2023, aims to raise $100,000 to support game industry workers and players facing challenges such as widespread layoffs and mental health crises.
In a joint effort, these six organizations are committed to making the games industry more diverse and inclusive, fostering supportive environments for professional growth and skill development, and addressing the mental health needs of both game lovers and creators.
The Stronger Together In Games campaign seeks to secure $100,000 in crowdfunded donations, with an additional $50,000 in corporate matching funds. Notable sponsors, including Amazon Games, Google for Games, SEGA of America, StridePR, Foundation Law, Clever Endeavor, Codename Entertainment, Modulate, and Midwest Games, have already pledged their support. To amplify this fundraising endeavor, a 24-hour charity livestream is scheduled for , on the campaign’s Givebutter page.
Dr. Jakin Vela, Executive Director of IGDA, expressed the challenges faced by the gaming industry over the past year, stating,
“As non-profit organizations that support game creators and players worldwide, we’re seeing skyrocketing demand for our programs and services.”
The funds raised will contribute to ongoing efforts in creating and sharing resources, facilitating networking opportunities and mentorship, and coordinating impactful programming aimed at diversifying the industry.
