GamerLegion Tauson: “We are way better than what we showed [in the MRQ]”

Published on

Even though GamerLegion’s journey at IEM Melbourne 2025 has concluded, it still marks a significant achievement for Tauson and his teammates. We had the opportunity to talk with him about the recent additions of REZ and PR to the squad, his initial experience playing in front of a large audience, and being part of a predominantly Danish lineup.

GamerLegion made two notable roster changes in January, parting ways with oskarish and volt to bring in PR from MOUZ NXT and REZ from Ninjas in Pyjamas. Furthermore, they announced this week the contract renewal of their coach, ashhh, who has been with the team since 2020.

“You can just look at the stats, [PR and REZ] have been doing absolutely amazing. They fit in perfectly with the rest of us, great additions. We have done some role changes here and there, REZ took some of my roles as well as PR, but personally I have have some good roles now on the team. I feel pretty comfortable as well.”

“[ashhh] brings a lot, a good example is he has a great overview of the game. We were 11-4 down versus FaZe, he took a tactical timeout and I think if it wasn’t for that tactical timeout, we wouldn’t have won that game. He just brings a whole different view of the game and his preparation before the games is incredible, he’s a great guy. Good coach.”

GamerLegion’s recent results have shown some fluctuation, which is understandable as the team integrates its new members and roles. We inquired about the team’s objectives for this tournament and their broader goals moving forward.

“We bombed out pretty early in the MRQ (Austin Major 2025: European Regional Qualifier) so we didn’t make the major. Then we went straight to Australia after. The goal was to show that the MRQ was a one-time thing, we are way better than what we showed there. I think we did that pretty well, with beating FaZe and 3DMAX.”

“We had a bootcamp in February, the first boot camp with the team, where we set goals and the goal is that we try and make playoffs in all these events that we are playing.”

This event marked one of the first significant experiences playing in front of a live crowd for four out of five members of GamerLegion’s roster, especially when facing seasoned players on a team like Falcons. Tauson shared his insights on his experience throughout this weekend.

“[Playing in front of the Australian crowd] was a wild experience. One I will remember for the rest of my life for sure. It’s something I want to try again, so hopefully it’s not a one time thing.”

“You could feel that Falcons have a bit more experience [playing in front of a crowd]. They had one round on Train where they ‘naded B-Halls and the crowd went crazy ’cause they had hit us with the ‘nade and they stacked B and that was the round for them. I think they knew how to play with the crowd and we didn’t, next time we will be a bit more prepared. I think it will be maybe a win next time, maybe a semifinal, we’ll see.”

Tauson has been part of various rosters throughout his career, most recently representing MASONIC, ECSTATIC, and Team Secret. Some of these were full Danish lineups, while others featured an international mix, like his current team GamerLegion (which includes a Hungarian, a Czech, and two Swedes). Tauson compared the different experiences he’s had in these team environments.

“Danish lineups are a nice thing to play in. I would play for a Danish team any day, to be honest (laughs) I mean, not any day. This team is near to a full Danish team ’cause it feels like it’s actually a family here. I’ve tried to play in other international teams where it’s just been a nine to five job – you meet up and you clock out again after.”

“This lineup, you like the people you play with, you enjoy spending time with everyone on this team. It’s pretty rare to find on international teams, compared to Danish teams where it’s always like you’re good friends and kind of close friends.”

In two recent tournaments, PGL Bucharest 2025 and IEM Melbourne 2025, it was Team Falcons that eliminated GamerLegion. We asked Tauson what lessons he will take away from these defeats against Falcons, as well as what the future holds for GamerLegion.

“The experience [is what I’ll take away], it’s some of the greatest players of CS that we are playing against. It’s m0NESY, NiKo, Magisk, the coach as well, zonic. I have a lot of respect for all of them.”

“We have PGL (PGL Astana 2025) and Dallas (Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2025) coming up. We just want to end this year on a good note, hitting playoffs again in Dallas and Astana wouldn’t be too bad.”
